Narrow the
Zone Choice
Send us your activity and operating plan — what you will sell, where your customers are, whether goods are involved and how many visas you need. We will narrow the Sharjah options before you submit an application.
Why Choose a Sharjah Free Zone?
Sharjah gives founders several free-zone choices instead of forcing every business into one model. The practical advantage is that you can match the authority to your activity, office requirement, visa plan, import or export needs and expected growth instead of buying a licence only because the headline price looks low.
Bestax compares the setup around your actual operations. A digital consultancy needs a different structure from a trading company that needs customs access, while a manufacturing business needs a different facility and approval path again. We check those points before submission so the licence supports your banking, tax and day-to-day work after incorporation.

Sharjah Media City (SHAMS)
For founders considering Sharjah Media City, SHAMS currently offers service, trade and light-industrial licence options. Its standard and media packages include 100% foreign ownership, LLC licensing, a flexi desk with lease agreement and no NOC requirement. SHAMS also allows up to five business activities under the licence framework, subject to activity grouping and any required external approvals.
Why Choose Bestax for Your Sharjah Free Zone Company?
A licence is only one part of starting a UAE business. Bestax connects the formation decision with tax registration, bookkeeping, banking readiness and ongoing compliance so you do not discover a structural problem after the company is already active.
We check your activity before you pay
We review what you plan to sell, where your customers are, whether goods are involved and whether an external authority approval applies. This reduces the risk of choosing an activity that does not match the real business.
We plan the setup around visas and workspace
A 0-visa package, investor visa plan and future employee quota create different costs and steps. We clarify the practical impact before the application is submitted.
We connect formation with tax compliance
All Free Zone Persons within the scope of UAE Corporate Tax need to understand registration and filing obligations. Bestax prepares the setup with the tax position in mind instead of treating tax as a later problem.
We explain the 0% free-zone tax rule correctly
A free-zone company does not automatically pay 0% Corporate Tax. A Qualifying Free Zone Person can benefit from 0% on Qualifying Income only when the relevant conditions are met. We help you assess the position based on the business model and transactions.
We prepare for banking questions
We align the licence activity, company profile, shareholder information and expected transactions so your bank application tells one consistent story. The bank still makes the final account-opening decision.
We stay involved after incorporation
Bestax supports accounting, VAT, Corporate Tax, licence renewals and business changes after the company is formed, giving you one point of contact as the business grows.

SHAMS Business Setup: What Bestax Handles
For a founder choosing Sharjah Media City, shams business setup works best when the activity, shareholder structure, visa package and post-licence obligations are planned together. Bestax handles the parts that usually create confusion, from selecting the activity wording to preparing the company for tax registration and banking.
- Business activity and licence review before application
- Individual or corporate shareholder document checklist
- Trade name and company-structure planning
- SHAMS application and KYC coordination
- Licence package and visa planning
- Immigration card and e-channel coordination for visa packages
- Investor or employee visa process support where required
- Corporate Tax registration support after incorporation
- VAT threshold review and registration when required
- Accounting and bookkeeping setup so records start clean from the first transaction
SHAMS Free Zone Business Setup: Licence Options and Activities
Current SHAMS licensing information lists three main licence routes. The correct choice should follow what the company will actually do, not simply the lowest-priced package.
Service licence
For service-led activities.
Trade licence
For buying, selling and distributing goods.
Light-industrial licence
For eligible manufacturing and light-production activities.
The activity framework
Under the current activity framework, SHAMS allows either one business activity group plus four activity classes, including their subclasses, or up to five activity classes including their subclasses at no additional activity charge. Some activities need pre-approval or post-approval from another government authority, so Bestax checks approval requirements before relying on the licence timeline.
Structure and ownership
A shams free zone business setup can also be structured as an LLC or, where suitable, a branch. SHAMS confirms that foreign investors can hold 100% ownership and that a UAE resident is not required simply to establish the company. Existing UAE visa holders can also incorporate without a sponsor NOC under the current SHAMS rules.
Company Formation in Sharjah Free Zone: Compare the Main Options
The right Sharjah free zone depends on more than cost. Bestax uses your activity, physical-space needs, logistics requirements, visa plan and target customers to narrow the options.
| Free zone | Strong fit for | What Bestax checks |
|---|---|---|
| Sharjah Media City (SHAMS) | Consulting, digital, media, marketing, IT, e-commerce and many service-led businesses | Activity approvals, visa package, LLC or branch route, banking and tax readiness |
| Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone | Publishing, education, e-commerce, professional services and wider commercial activities | Activity fit, licence package, office and visa needs and operating model |
| SAIF Zone | Trading, aviation-linked activity, logistics and light industrial businesses | Cargo and logistics needs, facilities, customs and visa plan |
| Hamriyah Free Zone | Manufacturing, industrial operations, warehousing and businesses needing land or port access | Facility size, industrial approvals, customs and operational footprint |
| SRTIP | Technology, research, innovation, sustainability, education and knowledge-led businesses | Activity eligibility, research or innovation requirements and workspace |
| USARTC | Selected international trade and consultancy models | Commercial fit, activity availability and cross-border operating needs |
For company formation in sharjah free zone, we do not recommend a zone until the proposed activity and operating model have been checked. That keeps the decision tied to what the company needs after launch, not just the initial licence fee.
Not sure whether SHAMS, SAIF, Hamriyah, SPC or another Sharjah option fits your business? Send Bestax your activity and operating plan and we will narrow the choices before you submit an application.

Individual shareholder
For an individual shareholder, SHAMS currently lists a passport and Emirates ID or UAE visa where applicable.
Corporate shareholder
Corporate shareholders need a wider document pack. This can include the certificate of incorporation, memorandum of association, a recent certificate of incumbency or good standing, supporting ownership documents, a board resolution and an ownership structure chart.
A shams company setup is easier when the following decisions are ready before submission:
- Exact business activity and whether external approval is required
- Number and nationality of shareholders
- LLC or branch structure where applicable
- Authorised signatory and manager details
- 0-visa, investor visa or employee visa requirements
- Expected need for a corporate bank account
- Whether the company will trade goods, provide services or do both
- Expected UAE taxable turnover for VAT planning
- Expected customer and supplier profile for Corporate Tax and banking review

Organise the main setup inputs first

Final authority and third-party costs still depend on the selected package, visas, approvals and services.
Company Formation in Sharjah Media City: Our Onboarding Process
The current SHAMS process is digital, but the application still needs the right licence, documents and KYC information. Bestax uses a six-step workflow so you know what is happening before, during and after licence issuance.
Business review and eligibility check
We confirm your activity, customers, shareholders, visa needs and whether the proposed work needs external approval. We also flag situations where another Sharjah free zone or mainland setup is a better fit.
Licence and activity mapping
We select the service, trade or light-industrial route and map the activity wording to your real operations. Where multiple activities are needed, we structure them within the current SHAMS activity framework.
Documents and KYC preparation
We prepare the shareholder checklist, corporate ownership documents where relevant, manager or signatory details and application information so the submission is complete.
Application, approval and licence issuance
We coordinate the application and authority responses. SHAMS currently states that its official company-licence processing stage typically takes 1 to 2 working days once the application reaches the processing stage, although external approvals or extra-document requests can extend the overall setup.
Immigration and visa steps
For visa packages, the immigration card and e-channel process follows licence approval. We then support the applicable entry permit, status change, medical, Emirates ID and residency steps.
Tax, accounting and banking readiness
After incorporation, we help with Corporate Tax registration, VAT assessment, bookkeeping setup and bank-account documentation so the company can move from “licensed” to properly operational.
Bestax manages company formation in sharjah media city with the post-licence work included in the plan. This prevents a common problem where the owner receives a licence but has no clear next step for tax registration, records, visas or banking.
What Happens After Your SHAMS Licence Is Issued?
A licence gives the company legal standing, but your compliance work starts immediately.
Registration
Three months from incorporation
Under current UAE Corporate Tax rules, Free Zone Persons are within the scope of Corporate Tax and Taxable Persons must register with the Federal Tax Authority. A UAE resident juridical person incorporated on or after 1 March 2024 generally has three months from incorporation, establishment or recognition to apply for Corporate Tax registration.
The 0% question
Qualifying Income, not the licence location
For a SHAMS free-zone company, the 0% Corporate Tax position needs to be assessed carefully. A Qualifying Free Zone Person can benefit from 0% on Qualifying Income when the required conditions are met. Income that falls outside the qualifying rules can face Corporate Tax at the applicable rate. Qualifying Free Zone Persons also cannot elect for Small Business Relief, so free-zone status and Small Business Relief should never be treated as the same tax benefit.
VAT
AED 375,000 mandatory, AED 187,500 voluntary
VAT is separate. UAE-resident businesses generally need mandatory VAT registration when taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months or are expected to exceed that level within the next 30 days. Voluntary registration is available when the relevant taxable supplies, imports or taxable expenses exceed AED 187,500, subject to the FTA rules.
Bestax can continue supporting your SHAMS company with accounting records, Corporate Tax registration and filing, VAT registration and returns, and ongoing compliance. Keeping clean records from the first invoice gives you better control over tax, banking and future audits.

Had my first corporate tax filing done through Bestax. They offered a tax planning session that was extremely helpful, especially because I was unsure what expenses could be deducted legally. They kinda guided me through the whole process because, as a healthcare professional, I had no clue how things work around here.
I'm very pleased with the support provided by Athira and her team in completing my Transfer Pricing report and filing the Corporate Tax returns for my company. They are highly responsive, and the quality of their work and reports is truly excellent.
Very smooth and efficient service to open a freezone company. Even while sitting in canada. They are great. Highly highly recommend.
Bestax have been managing my accounts for the past 1 year now and I must say they do an amazing job. My tax returns are always on time and I never faced any penalty.
Maham guided me through the business license renewal process. She even flagged upcoming compliance changes I had no clue about. It’s that extra attention to detail that makes Bestax stand out.
Anusha at Bestax keeps our financials in top shape. Her budgeting advice has improved our cash flow significantly. Highly reliable team!
